Yes, the next meeting is on Super Bowl Sunday, but the meeting will be long over by game time. We'll meet at 2:00 p.m. in the Conference Room, Cameron Park Zoo, Waco.

I hope everyone is enjoying the FREE copies of "Good Bird Magazine!" that Good Club Member Barbara Kane was also able to procure for us. I know I've enjoyed my copies.

TREASURER VACATIONS IN CORSICANA

A big bird told your humble correspondent that Club Treasurer Frances and her daughter had a lovely time in Corsicana the other day and had to rent a trailer to bring home all the shoes they bought at the Yellow Box Shoe Outlet in that fair city. Also, they went out to Powell, a few miles east of town and enjoyed a visit to Bancroft Pecan House, www.bancroftpecans.com. Tom and I went over there the other day and I stocked up on honey, summer sausage and several varieties of nuts for the birds and me.

PARROT TRAINING WORKSHOP APRIL 17, 2010

Barbara Heidenreich is having a parrot training workshop on Saturday, April 17, in Keller, just north of Fort Worth and going toward Denton. I MIGHT go and wonder if any other members are interested. I received an e-mail about this event and will forward it to anyone wanting more information.

An early riser might be able to make it by getting up real early that morning. Me-I'd have to go up the Friday night prior to the meeting. Still, I could be late to the first session.

EXPERT MEMBER HELEN SOLVES MYSTERY

I contacted Helen Fahlsing about Gary's question at our last meeting regarding his plucking finches. Helen said the wild bird seed they ate could have caused the plucking. It seems like the wild bird seed contains something finches should not have. Also, the quality control during manufacture is not as high as with pet bird seed or pellets.

Anyway, it's good to know that the birds are all right now, however.

GREAT DANE POPULATION DWINDLES

Member Tom reports that he has two AKC Dane puppies left- a harlequin male and a mostly black female. Several people have expressed an interest but failed to produce the money thus far.

COLD WEATHER STRIKES AGAIN

Our little cold snap is bad enough with the cold rain-I had three inches here the past two days-but the people in Arkansas and Oklahoma are really hurting. A friend in Texarkana told me parts of Arkansas have a foot of snow and most of the state has some snow AND ice on the roadways. The power is out many places.

I hope everyone's outside birds stayed dry and warm and that the people around your place have as well.

SEE YOU REAL SOON

Sunday, February 7, at the Cameron Park Zoo to be exact.

By the way, I got my annual report from the zoo this week and was pleasantly surprised to see that they had over 250,000 visitors last year.

Until meeting day,

Don
